Dr. Alkawally received her Bachelor's of Science in Cellular, Molecular and Microbial Biology from the University of Calgary, with a focus on genetics and microbiology research. She received her Doctorate of Optometry degree with honours from the Southern California College of Optometry, as well as a Master's degree in Vision Science with a focus on dry eyes. She was trained in a variety of specialties during her internships in California, including specialty contact lenses such as monovision, multifocals, and scleral lenses, pediatrics, geriatrics, and ocular diseases such as glaucoma. Additionally, Dr. Alkawally completed a residency at Empire Eye and Laser Center in Bakersfield, California where she was mentored by both Optometrists and Ophthalmologists of various specialties, and received intensive training in dry eyes and other ocular diseases, emergency eye care, as well as pre and post ocular surgery care. She is passionate about keeping up with all the new research on ocular conditions and treatments, and is eager to pass on her knowledge whenever she gets the chance.
During her free time, Dr. Alkawally enjoys putting together puzzles, binge-watching TV shows and cat videos, and keeping up with the latest cosmetics trends. She is currently learning to sew.
Dr. Alkawally is a fellow at the American Academy of Optometry, and is a member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists, the Canadian Association of Optometrists, and the American Academy of Optometry.
